October - November update:

Once again, I would like to reiterate that plans for DLV 2002 have not
changed and will not change due to the tragic events and the uncertainty
in the months to come.

Although it's far too early to predict any turnouts or headcounts, there
has been a record amount of interest this early in the season. I can see
DLV picking up some people who would have otherwise attended other
events that have been cancelled. There's talk in the newsgroups (as of
this time not officially confirmed) that California Dreaming, which
would have happened a few weeks before DLV, has been cancelled. Many of
the people who would have attended this are within easy driving distance
of DLV, so I think it's safe to say we may be picking up people here.

Otherwise, it's onward and upward. We've confirmed plans for a number of
the big activities, and the schedule is falling into place, as you can
see below.

Pre-registration (for members of this list) for DLV 2002 will begin on
December 1. Details will be announced in the November-December update.

Pinkfest:

Still time to get in on Pinkfest, this weekend in Chicago.

Report from Las Vegas:

We had a nice get-together at Keys last weekend. As you would probably
figure, DLV was discussed quite a bit. There are a lot of things
happening, both in the good news and bad news columns.

First the good news ... :)

1. Glamour Boutique is open and is already doing a good business. There
is a chance, not definite yet, but a good chance, that they will be
willing to bring makeup artist Jamie Austin to the Las Vegas store for
the DLV week! I told them that we could not guarantee any minimum number
of sessions, but that makeovers, both general and instructional, would
definitely be in demand.

They also want to host an "open house" type thing for the DLV people.

Update: I just received word that Hidden Woman, another T* oriented
business will be establishing a Las Vegas shop in the next few months.
Details will be announced as soon as we know more.

Personally, I hope GB and HW will become good clean competitors. There's
more than enough business in the LV market to support both of them, and
having two shops under separate management gives the customers (that's
us, gang) a choice. I can actually envision two shops reinforcing one
another and mutually contributing to the growth of the community.

2. RHPS. A new Las Vegas cast is forming, consisting of KT (the GOOD
Frank), the couple that does Riff/Magenta, and others, including Anthony
from Glamour Boutique. They had hoped to have a theater by H'ween, but
it looks like that will come shortly after.

3. Dinner at Keys on Wednesday is a go. They love us there. :) Thanks to
Leah for making this happen.

4. Dinner on Friday at Carluccio's is also a go. Thanks again to Leah
(in unison "thanks, Leah") for coordinating this.

5. Golf is a go for Friday, and there seemed to be quite an interest at
the table last night. Thanks to Mindy for coordinating this.

6. Freezone has apparently seen the light and it is reported they are no
longer being anal about their facilities.

Now from the bad news department ... :(

1. Las Vegas Fantasy Tours has closed. I stopped over there Saturday in
the afternoon just to say hi, and found them not there. Last night
people confirmed that Robyn is indeed moving to Oregon. We wish Robyn
the best on her ventures.

2. LV Lounge has indeed slipped even more. Rumor (unconfirmed) that the
place may be up for sale. I'm gonna definitely yellow-light this on the
list.

3. Rumor that one of the smaller shops our people have liked may be also
going out of business. This is Pauline's on Eastern. I drove past there
on Sunday and noticed the brightly-colored "Everything Must Go" signs
but this place is closed Sunday and Monday so I did not get to stop by
there and confirm.

Local feedback on this one would be appreciated.

4. Rumor that the Hard Rock Casino has apparently become t-unfriendly. I
dropped by there and gave a go at being conspicuous. Did not see any of
that myself, but these reports come from people whose opinions I trust
and value.

5. Michael Cagle has disappeared. Not seen or heard from for some time.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Mailbag:

>Which hotel do recommend?

Most of our people will probably be staying (again) at either the Imperial
Palace or the Sahara.

October - November update:

We've had quite a number of people join this list within the past few
weeks. Welcome! We hope that you will join us this coming April. If you
have any questions or concerns, please let us know.

Plans for DLV 2003 are actually ahead of schedule. As you will see from
the notes and calendar below, the schedule of activities is filling out
nicely with old favorites and several new things.

This month we will be deciding our suggested hotels for DLV 2003. These
will be announced in the November - December update. Our suggested
hotels are just that, suggestions. As always, everybody is free to stay
wherever they want. Suggestions are primarily for newcomers who don't
know the area, and for anybody who wants to stay in the same hotel as
some of the others.

Pre-registration for members of this list will open January 1, 2003.
Regular registration will open February 1, 2003.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Activity updates:

Some of the new activities that have now been planned (some may not have
a timeslot on the calendar yet) include:

. Shopping trip to the outlet malls at Primm (NV-CA state line)

. Late-Nite gathering at Bellagio

. Southern Belle Society Garden Party

. Bowling

. Dance night at a new club on Flamingo

. Open house sessions at various merchants

Several others are in the discussion phase, including a "Las Vegas type"
show (this will happen, we just don't know which show yet), some options
for a dinner-show, and some ideas for afternoon side trips.

Many of the favorites from DLV's in the past will happen again, such as
karaoke, air tours, limo tour, golf, annual mixer, Saturday evening
show, high tea, etc. See in-progress schedule below. Again, some of
these may not have a slot on the calendar yet, even though they will
definitely happen.

Sorry if I'm a little behind on DLV current events. Things at work have
been ludicrous lately.

> . Shopping trip to the outlet malls at Primm (NV-CA state line)

Can we hear a little more about these malls?

> . Late-Nite gathering at Bellagio

What will we do at Bellagio?

> Fall Harvest 2002 (A convention, not a vacation -- LOL)

I love it.

> Apr 25 Fri
> Morn Air tours
> Golf

Are air tours going to overlap golf? I'm feeling damn good this year
and I'm ready to do both. And I am once again in the mood for doing
skydiving, either indoor or outdoor. Let's try to drum up some support
for this... if you're brave enough to go out dressed, you should be
brave enough to do some skydiving!

> Can we hear a little more about these malls?

Well, actually mall singular, I probably typo'd it into a plural. It's
a fairly new outlet mall south of Las Vegas at the California line. I
would say it's a step upscale from Belz, although probably slightly
smaller.

Very typical upper-scale outlet mall stores. Banana Republic, Guess,
DKNY, Gap, Tommy H, Nieman's, etc. I do not remember seeing any shops
that were specifically geared to larger sizes there, though.

Food court with the usual. Sbarro, Toast On A Stick, Panda Express ...

I last saw this during DLV 2001, so more may have been added since then.

One thing I did notice was that there did not seem to be very many kids
there at all.

It's at the south end of the Primm Valley Resort, connected to the
casino. There are three casinos down there, all connected by monorail.
All three have buffets, iirc.

Buffalo Bill's has the huge roller coaster. (Or as they say in
Indiana, "rolley-coaster." :)

It's a very easy drive, 30-40 minutes or so.

Eat, drink, be Mary. :)

Uh, does that mean you'll be joining us? :)

Well, since I think it was you who said to put air tours on both days of
the calendar (Thu-Fri), and since golf is gonna be one of them ... :)

> And I am once again in the mood for doing
> skydiving, either indoor or outdoor. Let's try to drum up some support

I will drive a group there, I will watch. I'll even go out to the drop
zone and pick up people. I'll take pictures of the group jumping. I'll
encourage those who want to try it to do so. However (comma) don't hold
your breath waiting for me to put on a jumpsuit! :)

But seriously, it's things like this, far out as they may be, that sets
DLV apart from SCC/FF/FH/TT/CGR/etc. If you want to set this up as a DLV
activity, I'm behind you all the way. (Well, up to the point you climb
aboard the plane, that is. :)

Ha! Guess again girl! :-)

I do hope you get your skydiving thing "off the ground" this year. I'll
be happy to loan you my Celine CD with "I Believe I Can Fly". Just
don't land with a "Bang Bang". :-)

Seriously, best of luck with this at DLV 2003.

I think I might be interested in the indoor version but I'm certainly
not ready for the real thing. It'd be my luck that my dang chute
wouldn't open!

Hi Denise,

I offered to do flying both mornings, that way the people that don't golf
can go that day. It will also be easier on me, not to do so many flights
the same day.

Love ya,

Gina

Hi Gina

I guess we can see how many sign up for air tours. If there are enough
to keep us busy, I won't do the golf.

Well, yeah, but taking chances is good for you. It makes ordinary daily
stresses seem inconsequential.

Larger sizes? Oh thanks!

Is it a woody, or one of those steel-track coasters where they lock the bars
over your shoulders and beat your head against them?

> [Fall Harvest] Uh, does that mean you'll be joining us? :)

Probably not, because I don't fly on airlines. I'm too old to enjoy a body
cavity search.

That sounds like something Gina would say. :)

I'm up for it, though. We can play golf anytime.

Not even a cute little pink one, with bunny ears?
