While giving something up for Lent it is my understanding (As a
practicing Catholic) that it isnt a time for sack cloth and ashes. One
lent I gave up caffeinne. No big shakes (pun intended) . It affected my
life inasmuch as I spent a week with caf withdrawal headaches. Those are
like migraines. But the rest of my life did not change otherwise. The
point was I gave up an addictive substance for my own health and peace
of mind.
SO Lent is no big deal. For the faithful who feel a deep seated need to
give up something then they will more than likely choose something that
is fairly optional anyway. I have seen some give up tobacco, alcohol
others give up a favorite meal (because thier love of it bordered on
nuerosis). And have heard of children that gave up night lights teddy
bears and even thumb sucking. (How do those little guys do that ? I
still suck.....)
And if someone wants to give up dressing for lent Then so be it. I doubt
it would much affect the outcome of the event anyway
