In reply to Holly, you would have us take the March dates off the vote because of ....why? For the most part, there aren't any dates that people won't have a conflict with. From what I've heard from my friends in New York, most of the people that go to Keystone are from the East coast. It's their thinking we MIGHT lose 10 or 12. I think a dozen is an acceptable loss, if we get 150-160. As far as the comment that Amy(Glamor Boutique) will be there. She will probably be here the first part of the week and might have one of her helpers open GB while she is away. In any case there are other options for make-overs. Paula @ Harmony Nails, Stephanie, Isabel and doesn't Bare essentials do it too?

Hi.
I don't attend conferences or conventions,( Not my style ), D L V is my only T event so Gingers point hits the mark for me but not just for the reasons mentioned.
My preference for DLV as opposed to The "C Word" is mainly because I didn't want to be closeted in a Hotel for 4 or 5 days sitting around a hotel listening to speeches and sales pitches just so I could attend the Gala Ball at the end of it all!....and the second would be I would not only have to pay for lodging but for the mere fact that I was in attendance = + $300 to $400.
If this was a factor in a decision for my vacations then 2 events within 1 month or even 2 in a year would be too much! In essence Someone who is going to Keystyone wasn't likely going to DLV anyway as it was always close to our time frame and I can go to Vegas for a few days for less than the price of a conference admission Fee! which I do 2 or 3 times a year.
Another point worth mentioning is Amy surely can assign Maryannne or one of her many associates to kick off DLV for her and arrive later in the week to join in the fun, I suspect that's the way a good Business is run. I agree that Amy has become important to our week of fun so please don't think I am being callous and heartless but a flight from Penn' to Nevada is only 3 hours.

Each time in the past I have voted for the earlier dates as they were convenient for me but I had a thought in mind last year to suggest that we alternate the event between March April and May to accommodate Michelle and those who liked dates in May. IE: = **May every second or third year and April or March every other year**. In case anyone is curious, No Michelle and I are not big buddies and I am not lobbying for her but Maybe we should think about it anyway as It is a shame that one of the originators has to miss DLV and bow out due to the newer peoples wishes. (Me being one) who take the lead on time frame decisions. Personally I would prefer late September as the weather is always perfect in L/V. ( I just got back from there ) and yes I have have suggested that one in past discussions!

Withdrawal of Date???

Hi

Some years ago we had a situation where we missed an NAB conference. Yes, I
know had to miss a couple of 100,000 people but it happened. Dates were sets
and then Hotel room skyrocketed, it was realised there was problem and then
the dates for DLV were changed and that upset others who already made
bookings.

So... Point is this...

..if having DLV clash directly with something else to the detriment of DLV
then the dates should not be considered

..if having DLV clash does not look likely to cause a problem leave the
dates as an option for the voters.

I would think, given I no longer having voting rights, that those voting
will consider the March date a bit "toxic" if it has smell of diminishing
the turnout.

There is clearly a group of people who want a March date so they can attend.
Like many other years some will miss out.

I agree with Gingers comments regarding the likely impact, that is, is
minimal and I'd be inclined to leave them in however I think the feeling
will be to vote on "better" dates for the potential good of DLV...

All IMHO.

Hugs
Michelle J.

You volunteered to lead a major DLV activity. Didn't you?

You said you wanted your voting status back. :)

While in the past there have been dates that have not been very
convenient, the current situation regarding my being able to attend has
nothing to do with March, April or May dates. It is simply money! I work
as a contractor in the IT & Teleco industries and the work here has
dried up as a result of a "perfect storm" of events (GFC, Telecom
separation, Government FTTH initiatives, Bad NZ economy, earthquakes).
Its meant that work for contractors is hard to get, too many people
trying for the same roles, and at not very good rates.

If I had the money / resources and given no other conflict I would come
irrespective of the dates / week.

My issues with current date selection is not whether they are good or
bad, only that a date that may turn out to be problematic remains as an
option and then we find out it really is bad and have to change it.

As to Katies idea of switching between months, I think that probably has
happened over the history of DLV anyway. Its certainly moved around in
April and and has had a couple of May dates (albeit at the end of DLV).
We are ruled by the dates set by events MUCH bigger than us and so we
have to take what is available.

Thanks so much for think about me though, I do appreciate it.

Hugs
Michelle
