PinkFest Red Roof

Annie,

You mentioned a Red Roof (and some other hotels) for Pinkfest. Is it the
one at 162 East Ontario Street the right hotel? Any other
recommendations are appreciated.

Yes, it's the one at the corner of Ontario and St. Clair.

It ain't the Waldorf, but it seems to be the most popular hotel
in the city proper for Pinkfest.

Ginger usually stays there.

I've also stayed in a number of other hotels in the area, both
for Pinkfest and otherwise, including the Hampton Inn, Hilton
Garden Inn, Holiday Inn Express (nee Hotel Cass), Days Inn,
Holiday Inn City Center, Hyatt Regency, Comfort Inn, and Best
Western River North. The last (BWRN) is one of the only hotels
in the area to offer no-hassle free parking with unlimited
in-out. If you will be driving, that's your best bet if you
want to be in the city proper!

LOL! There's also the Ohio House and the HoJo, if you're
feeling lucky! :) :)

If you're looking for cheaper accommodations, there are tons
of hotels/motels in the burbs, but that means you will most
definitely need a vehicle. In past years we've had a number
of people stay at the Days Inn next to Hunters Dance Club
(said while twirling index finger) so they can stagger back
without risking a DUI. :)

A balance of cost and convenience would be something like the
Holiday Inn O'Hare Plaza (nee Ramada) "The OJ Hotel" on
Cumberland just south of the Kennedy. I've done that twice
for Pinkfest without a vehicle, but it's a 30 minute train
ride into the city.

It's cheap and the staff and the other guests have always been OK with
me, but it's small hotel with a small staff and lobby. The two elevators
are often busy.

You need to be prepared to meet the public and be accepted.

It seems to me that it is very popular on weekends with groups of women
and families who come to Chicago to shop on The Magnificent Mile.

I am looking forward myself. How early should I book my reservation at

Soon. Very soon, as in now. Book early, book often.

Two scenarios often happen as we approach the Pinkfest dates.

1. Rates rise to astronomical levels if the hotels anticipate a sell-out.

2. Rates drop as hotels try to fill rooms.

My suggestion is to book now and get the rate locked in, even if it seems a bit on the high side. Don't get sucked into booking those in-advance non-refundable rates. Then check rates often and if the rates drop, re-book at the lower rate.

Room rates in Chicago vary quite a bit. Sometimes the hotel's web site will have the best rate, other times the travel sites (Travelocity, etc.) will. Southwest Airlines used to frequently have good rates for Chicago hotels, but not in the past few years.

Briana,

Earlier the better if you are looking for deals on the hotel.

There are lots of friendly places and events as part of Pinkfest.

The Center on Halsted is a very friendly and affirming place for
everyone regardless of how experienced anyone is. And Boys Town is a
very fun neighborhood. You should have no worries. It would be hard to
find a more accepting neighborhood anywhere.
